There's a general policy for Los Angeles County that addresses that for all County facilities, including the Public Health Lab. I'm pretty sure there's probably a similar policy in place for the UC system, whether you're working in a lab or any other place where you're on the clock.

A colleague from another department asked if we had any written policy regarding returning to lab work after drinking alcohol, whether a beer for lunch or working after happy hour...
I don't think we have anything that says "show up for work sober" but I'll be looking.
