Susan makes an excellent point regarding labels.  There's a laminated cryogenic-grade (and barcode-able) label called Cryo-Babies that still sticks at -70C.  Way pricier than Avery or Office Depot, but well worth it.
The down side, at least initially, is that the sheet of labels has a unique 5-across x 17-down arrangement, so you'll have to configure your mail merge label settings and save it as a customized label to make it work (Cryo-Babies are not on the Microsoft label list).

When selecting a barcode label material, consider the storage conditions it will be used in. Cold or possible contamination conditions (if leakage occurs) could affect the material. Using pre-printed barcodes helps prevent accidentally using the same barcode a second time.

Years ago, we purchased pre-printed labels with a laminated coating for our chemical library samples. Cost 1c each. They worked well. I'm no longer in that role and I'm afraid I no longer have the vendor info but I'm sure if you google for laminated labels, you'll come up with something.

Hello All,

I am looking for an inexpensive way to generate barcode labels to inventory chemicals.

Does anyone have a recommendation for an easy way to print these labels or a good software you would recommend?

Thank you!
