What if chemistry students graduated with the toolset-and mindset-to tackle the grand challenges of sustainability? What if educators had go-to resources to teach fundamental chemistry concepts within the context of big-picture issues like the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals and using a systems thinking approach?
The ACS GCI's Green Chemistry Education Roadmap Initiative is a multi-year project to more fully integrate green and sustainable chemistry into the undergraduate chemistry curriculum. Throughout this initiative, we have brought together stakeholders from across the chemistry enterprise to work from aspirational ideas and overarching concepts towards concrete undergraduate education resources. By 2022, we will begin training educators across the country to use collaboratively designed, open access resources that are classroom-tested and based on educational best practices. These resources, or modules, will be developed throughout 2021 and 2022.
We are now looking for chemistry educators and curriculum developers to join us in developing these modules. As a module developer, you will:
- Work with a team of educators from a variety of institutions, supported by ACS GCI staff
- Select a topic according to your expertise
- Provide feedback to another team's module
- Pilot a module in your classroom and make revisions
- Ensure your module meets the evaluation rubric
- Receive authorship credit for your work
- Receive financial compensation upon delivery of classroom-ready materials
- Expand your network and have fun with like-minded green chemistry educators!
