The next two weeks are going to be busy for CHAS members, as the virtual national meeting beginning next weekend presents unusual opportunities for broader participation in the technical and business activities of the Division. Specifically, upcoming events include:

1. Professional Development Workshops are taking place Tuesday through Friday this week. See
https://dchas.org/2020/05/30/workshop-registration-page-2020/
for details on these. Note that you do not have to register for the National Meeting to attend the workshops.
The Lab Safety Team workshop (officially titled "Empowering Academic Researchers To Strengthen Safety Culture" is full, both for the August session and for the follow up session in November.

2. On Thursday, three CHAS members will present a national ACS webinar panel discussion on "Community Protection Strategies in the Covid Era". This webinar will be Thursday, August 13, 2020 at 2-3pm ET with Speakers: Robin Izzo, Princeton University and ACS CHAS / Frankie Wood-Black, Sophic Pursuits and Moderator: Ralph Stuart, Keene State College and ACS CCS

You can register for the webinar for Free at
https://www.acs.org/content/acs/en/acs-webinars.html

Topics to be covered include:
‰?¢ Advantages and challenges of using personal protective equipment for community protection
‰?¢ Best practices in physical distancing and peer coaching in the teaching and research settings
‰?¢ Ventilation considerations in managing COVID concerns
Co-produced with: ACS Division of Chemical Health and Safety ACS Committee on Chemical Safety

3. Next Sunday August 16, the CHAS executive committee will meet for the annual Division business meeting. This meeting will be 10 AM to noon Pacific time. Details for connecting to this meeting will be sent to the list later this week. Note that you do not have to register for the National Meeting to attend the Division business meeting.

4. The Division's very busy technical program begins next week Monday August 17. These virtual presentations come in two styles:
- broadcast sessions in which the speaker is available at a specific time to respond to questions and comments after the pre-recorded presentation is played
and
- on demand presentations, which are available throughout the week and follow up with the authors is done by e-mail.

The abstract titles and a link to the technical sessions schedule are available on the CHAS web site at
http://dchas.org/2020/08/08/fall-2020-chas-at-a-glance/

5. Given how busy August will be for the Division, we will resume our CHAS chat sessions in September, with highlights from the fall technical presentations.

I hope everyone can take advantage of this unusual opportunity to sample the expertise of the Division. I am continue to be impressed with the growth in the number and quality of papers that the Division presents each year.

Let me know if you have any questions about this.
