Reports said the facility produces chemicals for consumer electronics, lightbulbs, and personal care products. --------------------------------------------- TEENAGER TO FACE COURT ON DRUG CHARGES AFTER DRUG LAB IN UC RESIDENCE EXPLODES A 19-year-old man will face the ACT Magistrates Court charged with manufacturing a controlled drug, following an explosion which forced a section of a University of Canberra student residence to be evacuated on Tuesday night (30 October). Around 8 pm, emergency services along with ACT Criminal Investigations, AFP Forensics and AFP Bomb Response responded to reports of an explosion at the University of Canberra‰??s Cooper Lodge. The teenager was transported to hospital and a section of the residence was evacuated. But how many dust-related safety incidents occur each year? Created in 2016, the CDID features a twice-yearly report on fires and explosions having to do with combustible dusts. Police said the incident occurred at 8.15am, when the JCB machine, was digging a hole to dispose of toxic chemical waste. JCB machine‰??s excavator bucket hit the drum it was going to bury, resulting in a blast. The tremors caused were felt in the nearby villages, as far as Kalyan. ‰??The explosion was so massive, the JCB machine flew right out of the pit and landed upside down, a few metres from it,‰?? said supervisor Vidyakant Mishra. ‰??Since I was away checking other operations, I escaped unhurt. However, the JCB machine driver , Santosh Patil, 42, sustained serious injuries,‰?? said Mishra. The industrial waste collected from Mumbai and neighbouring places is dumped on Taloja MIDC land. One officer was kept overnight and released on Monday.
