DCHAS Friends and Colleagues,

After 25+ years at Stanford, and 15 years at other major academic research universities, I have finally decided to step down from my current position in June, and join the ranks of others who have recently retired from full-time employment.

Now is the time for me to move on to the next stage of my life and, with my wife, spend more time to enjoy our family, especially the grandchildren.  I also plan to work more diligently on improving my golf game (there is plenty of opportunity for improvement there).

I have been very fortunate to have worked for some high quality organizations in the higher education sector, from the University of Connecticut Medical Center, to UCONN main campus, to two stints at Yale University and, for the past 25 years, at Stanford University. Every place is unique and each has provided me with the opportunity to continue my personal and professional development over these past 40 years.  One thing many of you may not know is that I also spent 8 years, prior to work in higher education sector, teaching sciences, first in a teacher’s college in Peru, SA and for 7 years at Copley Square High School (now called the Snowden International School) in the Boston Public School system.

One common trait at all the higher education institutions at which I have worked has been the dedication and focus of the EH&S staff and employees.  I have been very fortunate to have worked with some wonderful professionals who have shared the common goals for a strong mission support EH&S program. To each of them I am very grateful, as the accomplishments at each institution I have served are certainly the result of our collective efforts.

I have also thoroughly enjoyed being part of the professionals represented on this listserv and look forward to continuing to read about the various successes, travails, travesties and challenges from the members of this group.

Finally, for anyone with interest, the Stanford position for Associate Vice Provost/Director of EH&S is now posted at the following link:   https://stanford.taleo.net/careersection/jobdetail.ftl?job=77673&lang=en#.WmawnZr6gUg.email

I look forward to seeing many of you at an upcoming meeting, but wanted to provide you with the update on my pending retirement from Stanford.

Larry
