Monique is your question about ducted vs ductless or general exhaust vs a local exhaust source? Jeff

Monique,
You are right, there are none. NFPA has fume hood standards, but they are not a legislative body. You best bet would be local codes and internal policies.
I have come to find that regulations are never that specific. They set a PEL not to be exceed, but do not state specifically how to achieve such conditions or how to protect workers exposed above a PEL. You can use a fume hood or you can use an SCBA or you can eliminate or substitute the use of a chemical. - Employer's choice.

The regulations are open to interpretation, that is why we have attorneys Oh, and the congressmen who wrote and enacted these laws, attorneys too.

One day we will begin to elect scientists as our elected officials.

Be well,
James

Does anyone know of any regs that specifically state WHEN fume hoods are required, specifically ducted hoods?

Thank you,
Monique
