Perhaps this person simply needs to try other vendors.  List folks - who have you used for this purpose?

Not that it's a practical solution for that person at the moment, but having lived that life, let me give a life-altering thumbs up to Visian ICL (implantable contact lenses).  Costs twice as much or more than Lasik (which this person would not be a candidate for), but has equally good if not superior results with no damage to the existing lens.  It's basically like getting cataract surgery, but skipping the part where they macerate and remove your existing lens.   Which means it can be done while you're awake, just like Lasik, although it is certainly an experience.  https://www.kremereyecenter.com/eye-care-services-lasik-vision-correction/visian-implantable-contact-lenses/

In fact, buy me a drink the next time I'm at a conference and I'll give you wonderfully theatrical description of the unique experience of having a lens injected into your eyeball and unfurl while you lie there wide awake...

A researcher has very thick prescription eyewear and has been told that the prescription can't be produced in safety eyewear.  Over spectacles eyewear make him nauseous.
