Hi Debbie,
Airgas uses grades with numbers 4.0 or 5.0. A grade 4 has 4 9s (99.99) while a grade 5 has 5 9s (99.999) and so on. So, a grade 4 gas is at least 99.99% pure, which I also believe corresponds to the quality of grade D air.
Best,
Monique

Scott (Facility Manager) has told me that the building compressed air line delivers "Grade 4" compressed air, which he found out from the ladies and gentlemen who maintain the pumps in the basement. I have not been able to figure out what set of standards compressed air is measured by. I've heard of 'medical grade' and 'scuba diving grade'.... but even those are confusing me now that I've looked into it more. Any ideas? Thank you and have a great Wednesday! Subject: Compressed Air 'grade' question
I have a question that I was hoping you could help me answer.
What is grade 4 compressed air? what standard is that grade referring to?
Basically I need to present my PI with some information on the quality of our building compressed air compared to other options.
Cody
