EPA Workshop on Epigenetics and Cumulative Risk Assessment: Pre-Meeting Introductory Webinar on Epigenetics

On September 2-3, EPA‰??s National Center for Environmental Assessment (NCEA) will host a workshop examining the role that data on epigenetic changes may play in assessing cumulative risks in human populations exposed to multiple stressors. This workshop will focus state-of-the-science discussions on:

Examining the current understanding of the impacts of a variety of stressors on epigenetic status;
Evaluating the potential to use epigenetic change as a measure of cumulative, multi-stressor, exposure and impact;
Defining research and practical needs to advance epigenetics as a potential application tool for cumulative risk assessment.
Results from the workshop will help in the development of future methodologies pertinent to including epigenetics data in future human health assessments. The workshop will be held in EPA‰??s Arlington, VA Potomac Yards Conference Facility. The workshop will also be streamed via webinar for individuals unable to attend the meeting in-person.

In advance of the workshop, EPA is providing an introductory webinar on epigenetics on August 24 from 3:00-4:30 pm. Registration for the introductory webinar is available on the workshop registration form.

For more information on this workshop, including to register and view the agenda, please visit the workshop website.

EPA Peer Input Teleconference Workshop for Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) and Sulfer Oxides (SOx) ‰?? Ecological Effects

EPA has announced a teleconference workshop to take place on August 25-27, 2015 to evaluate preliminary draft materials that will inform the development of the NOx and SOx Integrated Science Assessment (ISA) for Ecological Effects. This workshop will provide scientific content to EPA‰??s evaluation of the scientific evidence for the review of the secondary National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for NOx and SOx. Participation is via teleconference only. To register for the teleconference please visit the registration site. For more information please view the Federal Register Notice.

EPA‰??s National Center for Environmental Assessments Public Workshops on Issues in Risk Assessment

EPA has posted the schedule and subject matter for a series of public workshops on topics in risk assessment. Four workshops are scheduled in 2015-2016 on the following topics:
Epigenetics and Cumulative Risk Assessment (September 2-3, 2015)
Advancing Systematic Review (December 16-17, 2015)
Temporal Exposure Issues for Environmental Pollutants: Health Effects and Methodologies for Estimating Risk (January 27-29, 2016)
Characterizing and Communicating Uncertainty in Human Health Risk Assessment (Early 2016)
These workshops allow engagement with the broader scientific community, and enhance our understanding of current scientific challenges that may be addressed through modifications to assessment methods or new research. More information, including registration information, scientific content, and stakeholder/public engagement details, will be posted closer to the meeting dates. For more information please visit the workshop website.

Chartered Clean Air Advisory Committee (CASAC) and CASAC Oxides of Nitrogen Review Panel Teleconference
On Thursday, August 13, 2015, the CASAC held a public teleconference to discuss the draft letter to the Administrator on their review of the Second External Review Draft of the Integrated Science Assessment (ISA) for NOx ‰?? Health Criteria. CASAC achieved concurrence on the letter, which includes strong statements recognizing the responsiveness of revisions made by National Center for Environmental Assessment (NCEA) staff, and concluded that the ISA will serve as a scientifically sound foundation for the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) review without requiring further review of the document. To view documents related to the NOx - Health Criteria ISA please visit the ISA Website.
