This is a very thought-provoking article. Definitely a worthwhile read. Debbie made an excellent comment regarding the use of “common
sense” to keep workers safe. Humans don’t know what they don’t know.
What is common for one, may not be common to the other. To quote Mark Twain, “Common sense is not that common.” In safety culture (and
life in general), we cannot rely on something that does not exist. Humans are not born with good sense; they acquire it all through their lives through experience, education and training.
