Hi all,

I can't recall how much this covers Stefan's specific questions, but I did a cover story on "teaching safety" a few years ago that might provide some inspiration for those looking for ideas for undergraduate teaching labs:
http://cen.acs.org/articles/88/i26/Expanding-Safety-Training.html

Not covered in that story was Seattle University's "safety teams" approach for general chemistry:
http://cenblog.org/the-safety-zone/2010/07/undergrad-laboratory-safety-teams/

And what the University of California, Irvine, is doing for inorganic chemistry labs:
http://cenblog.org/the-safety-zone/2011/06/uc-irvine-beefs-up-safety-training-for-undergraduate-inorganic-laboratories/

Cheers,
Jyllian

This topic probably has come up before, but I am interested in how other colleges & universities address UG lab safety training. This would not be for UGs in research labs, who may be getting a stipend or credit.

1. Do they attend the same training offered by EH&S for all lab workers?

2. Do their names get entered in the same database?

3. Does your institution offer a full day introductory lab safety seminar?

4. Does your institution offer a one credit course for UGs in lab safety?

Thanks for the responses. Let me know if you are a large school or small college- that may impact answers.
