A fire at a Merseyside recycling centre has prompted a warning to householders who want to dispose of hazardous chemicals.

These items were contained in a black bin bag and had been deposited in the container by an unknown member of the public. These chemicals are hazardous and can present a very serious risk to site staff and members of the public.Carl Beer, MRWA (Mersyside Recycling and Waste Authority) Chief Executive, said: ?Fortunately the fire was small and easily dealt with. However, this could have been much more serious and could have been avoided in the first place if simple guidelines had been followed.

SILVER SPRING, Md. (WUSA9) -- 35 students were affected after a student brought a bottle of mercury onto a school bus and into Francis Scott Key Middle School Wednesday morning.

According to Montgomery County Schools spokesperson Dana Tofig, a student brought a bottle of mercury onto the bus and opened the bottle to show it to another student.

Officials say the bus dropped those students off at Francis Scott Key Middle School and the student opened the bottle again to show it to kids in his classroom.

Once school officials were made aware of the mercury, the bus was found and isolated at the White Oak Library. The student and the kids in his classroom had been isolated there as well.

Most of the students had traces of Mercury on their shoes. Their shoes were taken from them for decontamination and they were given footwear. Some students had mercury on their clothes, mainly the shirts. Those clothes were also decontaminated.
