Kristi,
A space generally can be cleaned for general purpose use. However, it may be cost-prohibitive to attempt to clean it for food preparation (and I assume, consumption).
The space would need to be thoroughly cleaned, decontaminated and verified decontaminated before use.
If your question is, “would I allow (what you propose) to be done before all surfaces have been verified free of contamination” the answer is “no.”

Subject: [DCHAS-L] Food in a former lab space
Would any of you or your organizations permit food in a laboratory space that does not currently house chemicals, nor have current work going on with chemicals?
Specifically, would you permit a class involving food preparation to occur in a lab space that the previous semester was used for a freshman level general chemistry class, even if the area were "cleaned" and all chemicals removed?
Thanks,
Kristi
