TULSA - A city worker was injured Thursday when a natural gas line ignited.
Tulsa fire officials say a HazMat crew responded to the scene near 77th and South Wheeling.
TFD spokesman Stan May said a city crew was working on a water line when they accidentally hit a gas line, which ignited.
EMSA transported a 43-year-old man to a local hospital in serious condition, with burns to his upper torso, head and hands.
AFSCME Local 1180, a union for city of Tulsa employees, said Thursday night that preliminary reports indicated that the exploded gas line had not been marked. The group also pointed out that a private contractor, not the city of Tulsa, is responsible for marking underground lines.

LIHUE ? Kapaa firefighters and a HAZMAT crew responded to Kauai?s Eastside Wednesday morning after a 100-gallon fuel tank containing an odorous liquid washed ashore.
Carl Berg, the Japanese tsunami marine debris coordinator for Surfrider Kauai, said he believes it?s the first time a container with a hazardous fluid has reached Hawaii?s coast.
Due to the Japanese characters written on the side and the large amount of marine growth, Berg said he was ?fairly confident? it originated from the Japanese tsunami of March of 2011.

Following the horrific explosion in West, Texas, earlier this year, the Dallas Morning News wanted to find out how many serious chemical accidents had occurred in the United States. The newspaper combed through 750,000 federal records, only to learn that no single agency in the federal government has been keeping track of such disasters, and that whatever information agencies provide is likely to be 90% inaccurate.
?In fact, no one at any level of government knows how often serious chemical accidents occur each year in the United States,? Jon McClure, Daniel Lathrop and Matt Jacob reported for the Dallas Morning News. ?And there is no plan in place for federal agencies to gather more accurate information.?
The investigation did uncover at least two dozen industrial chemical accidents over a span of four years in Texas that resulted in deaths, injuries or evacuations. But the newspaper couldn?t be certain it had found all the accidents that took place during that time.

IDAHO FALLS ? Idaho Falls firefighters responded to a HAZMAT incident and a minor fire at Idaho National Laboratory facilities on Tuesday.
The more serious of the two incidents occurred shortly after 2 p.m. in an INL building that is under construction at 775 University Boulevard. Idaho Falls Fire Department Division Chief Brad Pettingill said a 55 gallon barrel of sulfuric acid was accidentally punctured; the acid subsequently spilled in the basement of the building and splashed onto a construction worker?s arm.
The man, whose name was not released, was treated at the scene and then transported by ground ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center with what appeared to be minor burns, Pettingill said.
The building was evacuated while HAZMAT crews worked to contain the spill and ensure that the acid didn?t seep into the sewer system through a drain. Pettingill said they were able to secure the area and a specialized team is expected to go in and clean up the sulfuric acid.
