A free and useful e-mail service with chemical snippets is provided by About.com Chemistry Guide. The once weekly e-mail service is prepared by Anne Marie Helmenstine and includes home chemistry demos, chemical presentations from around the web, and information about chemistry in everyday life. The level is suitable for non-science college majors and high school students.
You can sign up at http://chemistry.about.com. I have not seen any uptick in spam since I signed up for it a couple of years ago.
Also, to add to the collection below, AIChE http://www.aiche.org/ has content with educational goals in their Topics section. Some of the material is free with open access, some is free to the members. The sister UK organization, IChemE http://www.icheme.org/ has some material available in their Media Centre and Resources sections, but at a more post-college level. They have good sections about process safety and loss prevention, though.
