To me, this falls under the category of "Just because you CAN do something does not mean you SHOULD do it."

The key phrase I would use in rejecting the absurd request is:

"This demonstration provides no (or negative) pedagogical value while simultaneously exposing the professor and students to an unacceptable level of risk."

You do not need to have your institution highlighted on our "Chemical Safety Headlines" or featured on the 6PM news.
