Chapman University seeks applications for a Non-Tenure Track, Associate Professor of Science, to oversee research and teaching laboratory safety and compliance in the Schmid College of Science & Technology.

Qualifications

A PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Bioengineering, Environmental Engineering, or any science discipline with a lab-based educational and/or research component is essential. In addition, demonstrated knowledge of environmental health and occupational safety principles as applied to academic teaching and research laboratories and of OSHA/EPA and HAZWOPER is imperative. At least 3 years of experience related to development and implementation of chemical hygiene plans, standard operating procedures, hazardous waste collection and disposal, or other environmental health and safety issues related to science research and teaching labs are required. Demonstrated knowledge of safety-related computer programs and teaching effectiveness is preferred.

Responsibilities

Chapman University seeks a Non-Tenure Track Associate or Full-Professor to develop and oversee safety and compliance plans, policies, training, inventory, and procedures for the research and teaching laboratories housed within Schmid College of Science and Technology and the science technical staff that support these laboratories. This position reports directly to the Dean of Schmid College of Science & Technology.

The successful candidate will lead the Science Safety Committee; serve as the Schmid College representative on the University Health and Safety Committee, University Blood Borne Pathogen Committee, the University Biosafety Committee, and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee; and direct and/or serve in other safety- and health-related roles that relate to the operations of Schmid College, to include but not be limited to radiation safety. This position coordinates the health and safety initiatives in Schmid College with the University's Risk Manager, the University's Environmental Health and Safety Officer, and the University's Fire Safety Management.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach in the candidate's area of expertise.
