Brandon,

Thank you for your response.  Coming from someone who works with students i n this type of clothing is very helpful.  We want to talk to the stude nt or her father and see if there is any flexibility.  I love that you r students wear the surgical mask.  We figured we could protect the lo ose fitting clothing with a secure lab coat, but we really wondered about d ecreased peripheral visibility with the full face covering.  A veil ca n easily be tucked away.

We are a small institution and our only 2 chemistry faculty are males, but I am always her e and render basic first aid when anyone gets hurt.  Assigning a helpe r in the classroom also would be perfect.

Other female students we’ve had only wear dresses for religious rea sons and that is easily made safe by wearing a longer dress or skirt.  So I’m sure we can accommodate for the clothes and beliefs of this s tudent, and still be safe.

I’ve been forwarding everyone’s re sponses to my administration, so thank all of you.

MaryAnn
