Why are some people expecting to find coffee, cheese etc. in a media lab?  Are food and drinks allowed in your labs?

Is anyone maintaining a pot of h azelnut flavored coffee throughout the day?  One component of the haze lnut flavor decomposes under extended heating conditions and produces such an odor.  Sometimes the ventilation causes it to move surprising distances in unexpected directions.  I've know of instances where the coffee was not adjacent to the location of the odor complaint, and spaces i n-between did not have the odor (as confirmed by people who did smell it in the complaint area) but removal of the hazelnut flavored coffee did elimin ate the odor.

We have a strong “dir ty socks” odor present in one of our micro labs.  It’s a p retty typical lab using media and cultures, etc.  and we are systemati cally removing everything and deconning but this odor is persisting.  I know I have smelt this chemical before, maybe back in my undergraduate da ys, but it is really a sickening odor.  Any ideas?  Any help is g reatly appreciated.  Thank you!
