We have a mandatory safe ty lab for all students in our lab courses. If the students don’t comp lete the training, they are not permitted to participate in any other chem labs the entire semester. Most of our students realize we are serious ab out it and participate in their class’s safety lab. Those who don 8217;t, complete the make –up lab, or we tell them to drop the course. This has worked for 10 years, since I started work here, and all of our instruct ors in lab courses use this same procedure, and there is only one make- up for all lab courses together. We have had to drop only a handful of students in the 10 years we’ve been following this guideline. Most figure o ut how to get to a training so they can continue in the course. However, we’ve noticed that those students who participate in the mak e- up lab, generally don’t make it through the entire semester. They generally drop somewhere along the way. Go figure. A few, in ten years, have made it through the course, so for those few, we continue to offer one make-up safety lab.

Subject: [DCHAS-L] Safety Training
I am wondering how others address employees “blo wing-off” safety training. There always seem to be the few employees that invariably are no shows for the trainings.
Thanks in advance for your replies… p>
