While I like having the type of key th at Russell included in his email, I think Rob Toreki and Larry McLouth nailed the key reasons for why all containers should avoid abbreviations. =A0As the sa ying goes “it isn’t about you”, it is about those who come to the lab/sample without knowledge of the operations in the lab and are often und er a stress reaction condition.=A0 Our rules are full name, and that it is facin g out so no one needs to touch the container to know what it is. =A0This latter p oint is crucial in going through old samples.

Abbreviations
Such a vague question. What kind of laboratory? How familiar are the occupan ts with the abbreviations (acronyms?)? Who knows shorthand? span>
I don’t
mean
to be critical of the poster but the question begs this kind of response.
If there is even one occupant that is not familiar with the abbreviations or
the procedures in the laboratory it is best to avoid abbreviations.

To Everyone,
What is your opinion of allowing laboratories to use abbreviations and short hand as long as u> a key to those abbreviations is kept in a conspicuous location and is clear ly identified?
Thoughts? and Thanks
