Dear all,

I have been given a brief to come up with suggestions for renovations to an old lab (1970’s) with an emphasis on being ‘green’.  A few of the obvious things are replacing the water aspirators with vacuum pumps (as we are in drought, water conservations is a big issue), putting recirculating chillers on the rotovaps, low voltage lighting, recycling what we can (sinks, etc). It is on the first floor of a three storey building.

I am at a loss to think up any more. I have read through Debbie Decker’s great link to the University of California laboratory design guide and would really appreciate any suggestions or other references the list may have.

This is for an UG chemistry (for pharmacy/pharm.sciences) lab. As environment is such an important consideration in the noughtys, our chances of funding (and our social karma) is greatly improved by anything we can do to go eco friendly.
