I would add concerns about static electricity buildup. Perhaps rubber
matting around the magnet will prevent tube breakage. Attractive floor
tiles for esthetics can work.

I'm a bit hard on this one. Do they think it's not a lab? We use carpet to
distinguish lab from office, and to define where safety glasses are required
(if you've ever been around a quench, you understand the need for them).

Subject: carpet in NMR labs

Anyone have experience with carpet being installed in an NMR lab? If so,
could you please summarize the pros and cons you've experienced with
this set up. We have a new Science bldg coming on line and several
faculty members are requesting carpet tile in the NMR space. They state
advantages include aesthetics, noise reduction, and small expensive
sample tubes don't usually break if dropped. My primary concerns include
carpet damage from rolling large liquid N2 dewars around, spills and
clean up of contamination, as well as safe procedures for maintenance
workers using equipment (vacuums, etc) to clean and maintain the space.

Any feedback would be most appreciated.

Thanks

Brent
