The Pacific Basin Consortium for Environment and Health Sciences is
holding its 11th International Conference from 4 - 6 September at the
East-West Center at the University of Hawaii. The Consortium used to
be the Pacific Basin Consortium for Hazardous Waste Research and
Management - it has broadened its mandate. The theme is "Threats to
Human Health and Sustainability in the Pacific Basin: Environmental
Pollutants and Climate Change". They will continue to accept
abstracts for presentations after the posted deadline of July 15.
The topics of the sessions will include: Hazardous contaminants in
the Pacific Basin, Air pollution and human/environmental health,
Climate variability and periodic catastrophic events, Persistent
organic pollutants in the Pacific Basin, Children's environmental
health, Pesticides and human health, Mercury: sources and effects,
Monitoring of human tissues for contaminants, Pollutants, breast
cancer and breast feeding. I have found these conferences to be a
great venue to share ideas, hear about new developments on human
health effects of environmental pollutants and make contacts and
friends. For more information and submission of abstracts, see the
web site
