Dear Colleagues,

Desert Research Institute and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) 
Host CSHEMA-PRIZIM Regional Seminars.

The Campus Safety, Health and Environmental Management Association (CSHEMA)
 
and PRIZIM Inc. (PRIZIM) have partnered to sponsor educational seminars on
 
campus and laboratory safety and environmental management issues.  The 
seminars are designed for those who have interest in, or responsibility 
for, campus or laboratory environmental health and safety issues.  Though 
focused on academia, any laboratory-based organization, small or large, 
should benefit from attending.

  The next event will be hosted by the Desert Research Institute Reno, 
Nevada on October 13th and 14th.  MIT will host the second event, which 
will take place in Cambridge, Massachusetts on October 21st and 22nd. Each
 
program includes a day-long conference on contemporary topics, presented by
 
invited speakers, followed by a half-day focused workshop on applied 
program development.  Participants can choose to attend the one-day 
session, the half-day session, or both.

Sample topics planned for the Desert Research Institute location include:

have to be a Hard Sell?

=B7         Life in a Complex Regulatory Environment:  Keeping Up is Half
 the 
Battle

=B7         Security of Hazardous Materials in Teaching and Research
 Laboratories

=B7         An EMS Approach to Hazardous Waste and DOT Transportation 
Requirements

  The half-day workshop at the Desert Research Institute will address 
developing and implementing an effective internal audit program to monitor
 
EHS compliance and performance.  The workshop will help participants to 
understand all phases of the audit and follow-up process.

  Sample topics planned for the MIT location include:

=B7         Managing EHS Information with Handheld Devices

=B7         Mercury Reduction

=B7         DOT HazMat Requirements

  The half-day workshop at MIT will address the varying requirements for 
emergency planning under OSHA, RCRA, SPCC, DOT, and CDC.  The workshop will
 
help participants develop a comprehensive approach to incident response 
that integrates emergency planning, safety, and security requirements and,
 
most importantly, makes users and responders more confident and effective 
when reacting to an incident.

  The goal of these events is to bring reasonably priced, yet timely and 
valuable, EHS professional development opportunities to individuals from 
campuses and other laboratory-based organizations.  For more information
