Regarding Debbie Decker's question I wonder whether, regardless of the cause of the glove deterioration, the use of latex gloves for personal protection in a lab environment is adequate. Their wear, cut and breakthrough resistance is limited if not marginal; they may provide the wearer with a false sense of security. In addition to finding the cause of the glove deterioration, I'd suggest reviewing the lab's glove policy and providing researchers with better quality gloves assuring hand protection specific for the expected potential chemical exposures.
